Class Experience Levels

Level 1—No prior quilting experience. Need to know how to use your sewing machine.

Level 2—Basic piecing skills. Should know how to rotary cut and sew a ¼" seam.

Level 3—Confident piecing skills.

 

 


Class Registration & Cancellation Policy

   To reserve a place in a class, the fee must be paid at the time you register.

   Payment must be in cash or check payable to the class instructor.

   You may cancel up to 3 days in advance of the class for a class credit or refund.

   Credit will not be given for no-shows or cancellations less than 3 days before the class time.

If a class is cancelled due to lack of participation, a class credit or refund will be issued.

Supply lists will be available at time of registration.

Please remember that classes are for YOU—there is no child care available.

 We don't want anyone to get a parking ticket -
8 hour parking is available in the lot across from Luigi's.

The A, B, C’s

  Beginners on Your Mark     Level 1                                   

Are you new to quilting? Unfamiliar with the tools available? In this class you will learn to use your rotary cutter and ruler, master a perfect ¼ inch seam, and learn proper pressing techniques.  We will piece a few small blocks and try our hand at half square triangles. After this class, you’ll have the experience to take other quilt making classes and complete your first quilt project with confidence. (Book required)

of Quiltmaking

   Beginning Hand Piecing             Level 1

Learn to hand piece a block and you can take your work along with you anywhere you go. This is the most precise way to piece a block, get sharp points, and lovely curves. Some people say it is faster because you can take it anywhere you go so it fits into a busy life. This is a one-block class, not a project.

Beginning Machine Quilting         
                                                   Level 2

 I teach a method that will take a lot of  mystery out of  your quilting questions.  I will teach you free motion quilting, without marking your top. I go in depth into all the “little” things that can go wrong. I’ll show you an excellent way to prepare your top so you don’t have puckers. This class is designed to make you LOVE to quilt those tops and get the maximum results!

   Binding   Basics                                   Level 2

   You’ve pieced your top, quilted it, now what?
   This class will teach you everything you need to    
    know about binding your quilt. We will make a
   pot holder to practice our new skills or you can
  work on your own quilt that is ready for binding.

   Walking Foot Quilting          Level 2

 Quilt your own quilt and explore the 
 possibilities available with the walking
 foot. You will learn different marking
 techniques and various patterns you can
 achieve with the walking foot.  We will
 discuss how a pieced top tells you how
 and what to quilt. This can be a practice
 quilt or a project to finish in class.

  Beginning Hand Appliqué           Level 1

Do you love the look of hand appliqué but it remains a mystery? Appliqué is very versatile and not that hard to do. This class will take a look at several methods, all of which have common techniques. We will be using Ely Sienkiewicz’s book, “Appliqué 12 Easy Ways” and starting the charming small heart quilt. Once you have the technique, appliqué work is relaxing, fun, and portable (Book required)

   Adventures in Needle Felting           
                                                    Level 1
  

Join Patti for this FUN, EASY needle felting project. Learn basic needle felting techniques. Use your imagination and play with the wonderful world of wool and roving. It’s just the beginning of what you can do with needle felting!  (Pattern required)

Have you been saving a special stash of great buttons? Inherited someone’s vintage buttons and not sure what to do with them? Come join Catherine for a creative  day of making button bracelets that will be fun to wear and make  as a gift for a special friend. The only limitation is your imagination!  Select a color scheme, black and white, all pearl buttons, bright and happy plastics, or maybe red and white!

My First Quilt                    Level 1

Here's a project to learn on that's not like your old auntie's quilt. Its contemporary, fun and will fit on a bed. We will meet 3 times to learn accurate cutting and sewing. In the third class we will finish up with layering and binding instructions. Beginners On Your Mark class recommended but not required. (Pattern required)

  A Tisket-A-Tasket Basket
                                              Level 2

 Looking for a new project to expand your creativity, then this is the class for you. Learn the basic techniques of fabric baskets. Search your stash or buy just that special fabric to wrap and coil . Join in the fun and  produce a one-of-a-kind  basket or bowl.  (Book required)

   Prairie Braid                       Level 2

Explore the many uses of “foundation by the yard”. The Prairie Braid pattern is stamped onto a muslin foundation. This fast & easy technique  will make wonderful use of a Jellyroll, fabric line, batiks or Stash scraps. One panel will make a small wallhanging, quilt borders or a simple tote.

Come have fun constructing a work bag based on the knitting bags from the depression era. Complete with wooden handles and an interior rooming enough for your whole quilt top! This bag looks great in wool, old quilt top pieces and cheater patchwork cloth. It only has 2 simple shapes and can be completed in one class.  Pattern included.

       Kool Kaleidoscope Workshop    
                                                Level 2

This quilt is based on one of the first quilts Ricky Tims made, utilizes strip sets or “strata” to create the wedges and mirror images found in the class samples. The student will learn to make an original pattern and will use a variety of colors from dark to medium to bright to achieve the movement of the kaleidoscope. Meals are included all 3 days.

Mosaic Picture Quilt                   Level 2

Have you ever wanted to make a quilted wall hanging of a favorite photo?  Kathy will walk you through all of the steps to achieve your picture mosaic quilt, with virtually no piecing involved.  We will cover color placement, add embellishments and get started on quilting before the weekend is through.
